The Prize
One prize will be awarded for the most outstanding painting. The prize-winning artist will receive a full tuition scholarship to our Summer Visual Art in Italy 2007. This program will enroll about 20 students. Ten days of visual art classes will be held on our suburban Boston campus, then the program travels to Italy for another ten days of classes and exposure to the Ancient Art of Italy.
Five additional works will receive Honorable Mention Certificates and be included in our website viewing of the Pooke Award winners.
The Marion Pooke Competition is in honor of Marion Louise Pooke, faculty member of Walnut Hill between 1914 and 1923. Marion’s sister, Florence Augustus Pooke, an alumna of the Class of 1897, generously gave a collection of 28 paintings to Walnut Hill. In 2001, Miss Pooke's painting,” The Subway,” was featured in the Museum of Fine Arts exhibit A Studio of Her Own: Women Artists in Boston 1870-1940. The piece has also been shown at Vose Galleries in Boston, the Fenway Studios and the Danforth Museum of Art.
