Summer Writing Faculty
Margaret Funkhouser, Co-Director
Margaret Funkhouser holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Washington University in Saint Louis and a BA from Wesleyan University. She has taught at Bryant University and Washington University where she was also the 2002-2003 Writer-In-Residence. She has been the recipient of an Academy of American Poets Prize and a fellowship from The Millay Colony for the Arts. Her poems have appeared in the Boston Review, The Paris Review, Pleiades, and elsewhere.
Jason Stumpf, Co-Director
Jason Stumpf is the author of A Cloud of Witnesses, a collection of poems, and the translator of two books of poetry, Aurora by Pura López-Colomé and The moon ain’t nothing but a broken dish by Luis Felipe Fabre. Jason holds a BA in English and an MFA in Creative Writing from Washington University in Saint Louis. From 2002 to 2004, he was Co-Director of Underwood Poetry, a non-profit organization that produces letterpress editions of contemporary poetry. He was a member of the faculty of Providence College for four years before joining the Humanities faculty of Walnut Hill in 2008.
Joshua H. Cohen, Playwright-in-Residence
Joshua H. Cohen is a New York City-based playwright, composer and lyricist. His play Fun and Games received an extensive workshop from Little Hibiscus Productions. "Odysseus Swims For It," a ten-minute play, will be published by Smith & Kraus this year. His one-act plays and musicals have been presented by American Globe (upcoming), Turtle Shell Productions, and Prospect Theater Company, among others. He is currently working on commissions from Signature Theatre and New York Theatre Barn. He received his BA from Amherst College, and his MFA from New York University/Tisch School of the Arts’ Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program.
Kevin Prufer, Visiting Artist
Kevin Prufer is the author of Little Paper Sacrifice (forthcoming in 2011) and four other books of poems including Fallen from a Chariot and National Anthem, which was named one of the best five poetry books of the year by Publishers Weekly. He is the editor of Pleiades: A Journal of New Writing as well as several anthologies. His honors include a fellowship from the NEA, three Pushcart Prizes, three George Bogin Awards from the Poetry Society of America, and two recent Best American Poetry selections. He lives in rural Missouri.
Leni Zumas, Visiting Artist
Leni Zumas is the author of the story collection Farewell Navigator. Her award-winning fiction has appeared most recently in Salt Hill, Gigantic, New York Tyrant, and Quarterly West. A graduate of Brown University and the University of Massachusetts MFA Program, she has received fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts, Djerassi, Yaddo, and The MacDowell Colony. She has taught creative writing at Hunter College and Columbia University.
