Anne Murphy joined the faculty of Walnut Hill in 1978 and has been Head of the Mathematics Department at Walnut Hill since 1985.  During her tenure, Anne has introduced numerous math programs to Walnut Hill, including Advanced Placement level Calculus and also Statistics. She has implemented state-of-the-art technology throughout the mathematics curriculum.

Ms. Murphy was elected the Association of Independent Schools of New England (AISNE) Senior Teaching Fellow Award in 1995, and was awarded the E. E. Ford prize for Excellence in Teaching in 1992 and 2006. Anne was inducted into the Cum Laude Society in 2006. In 2008, she was selected as a Claes Nobel Educator of Distinction for excellence in teaching by the Nobel Prize family. She has been a long time member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), the Association of Mathematics Teachers in Massachusetts (ATMIN), and the Association of Advanced Placement Mathematics Teachers.

Ms. Murphy presented a paper entitled “Exploring the Benefits of Using the Parametric Mode on the TI Calculator” at the ATMIN conference in 1996, and has been a presider at the NCTM annual conference. She has also provided editorial support to reputable mathematics textbook publishers, such as Houghton Mifflin and Peoples Publishing.
