COLLEGE AND CONSERVATORY PLACEMENT INFORMATION FOR CURRENT PARENTS

Walnut Hill School has a tradition of successfully placing students in many of the most prestigious and selective colleges and universities in the United States. The Office of Admission and Placement advises families regarding admission to colleges, universities, and conservatories throughout their Walnut Hill experience.

The Office of Admission and Placement begins to meet regularly with students and families in the spring of junior year. The Office of Admission and Placement hours are 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Individual meetings with Admission and Placement officers may be scheduled throughout the school day, or by special arrangement in the evening. Parents of grade 11 students may make an appointment during the spring of that year. In the fall of senior year, parent conferences are available on Friday and Saturday of Family Weekend.

The Office of Admission and Placement, in conjunction with the Registrar, aids and advises students in registration for both the standard and nonstandard SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test), the ACT (American College Test), and the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). These tests are offered throughout the year at nearby test centers. SAT review is offered on campus by outside tutors for a fee; parents receive a mailing about these courses in the fall and spring.

In the spring of grade 11, students begin to work on important components of the application process such as researching colleges and conservatories, visiting campuses, and attending college fairs. Over the summer, students should discuss their educational goals with their parents and visit campuses for interviews, tours, and group information sessions.

During the fall, representatives from more than 100 colleges, universities, and conservatories visit Walnut Hill's campus. In addition to general information sessions, some colleges choose to interview students at Walnut Hill's campus. These schools have included University of Southern California, Occidental, Smith, Carnegie Mellon, Brown, New York University, New England Conservatory, Maryland Institute College of Art, the Juilliard School, Princeton, and School for the Art Institute of Chicago. Students may sign up to meet with admissions representatives after gaining permission from the Office of Admission and Placement. Currently, Walnut Hill students are enrolled at over 90 different colleges, universities, art schools, and conservatories worldwide.
