KEEFE LIBRARY

Located in the center of the campus, the Keefe Library serves as both a gathering place and an information resource center. Containing over 15,000 items—including books, CDs, vinyl recordings, audiotapes, DVDs, and videos—the Library houses a solid collection in the arts, as well as collections in the academic, reference, and recreational areas. We subscribe to approximately 50 magazines and newspapers, including publications in French, Korean, and Spanish. Online databases give us access to hundreds of additional periodicals, as well as many reference sources. Our Listening Room provides students with essential space for music appreciation and analysis, with more than 900 CDs and records in our collection. Our script collection of more than 600 plays allows our theater students the opportunity to substantially explore this genre.

Our Library is fully automated with networked computers for student use. The Library web page provides easy access to our online databases, with additional helpful websites.

Most books may be checked out for one month and may be renewed if not needed by another student or faculty member. Most videos and DVDs may be checked out for seven days. CDs and records must be used in the Listening Room. Reference books may only be signed out with permission from the librarian. The Library does not charge overdues, but will charge a service charge plus the price of any book that is not returned.

Due to an arrangement we have with our local public library, the Morse Institute, our students are permitted to get a public library card each year, which allows them access to a collection of more than 100,000 items, plus interlibrary loan options. The Walnut Hill School Library is a member of the Massachusetts Regional Library System. The library is also a member of the CLASS, a group of 19 independent schools who share an online catalog and an Interlibrary Loan pro–gram. In addition, the Walnut Hill School Library is a long-time member of the Greater Boston Cooperative Library Association (CLA), a group of 54 independent schools providing informational workshops, group projects, and resource sharing for its members.
